Slave to the Kitchen!
Oct. 13th, 2009 07:33 pmSo, Bear called as I was leaving work and requested cookies... knowing that I'd be more likely to make them if I picked up the supplies at the grocery store right after work, instead of having to make another trip out. He was right.
I picked up a few things for the cookies, but then thought about doing something for dinner and bringing it to him down at the station. I didn't try it before I left, and I was afraid it might be a little too adventurous for Kevin, but he surprised me. He loved it!
So... here's what it was, 'cause it was worth sharing.
3/4 box of spaghetti (or other pasta)
1 cup heavy cream
3/4 cup white wine
1 tsp dried parsley
1 tsp salt
2 Tbsp flour
kalamatta olives (my favorite!)
marinated tomato slices (these were from an olive bar-- regular tomato will do, too)
crumbled feta cheese
--Prepare spaghetti or pasta as usual. While it is cooking...
--Combine heavy cream, white wine, parsley, salt, and flour in a medium saucepan over med-high heat. Bring to boil, then simmer on low until thickened.
--Strain pasta and toss back into pan. Pour the white wine sauce over.
--Toss in tomatoes, olives, and feta cheese. Sprinkle with extra feta cheese; serve immediately (sauce gets too thick if it cools much).
----
After this, I made my first attempt at Grammy's famous sugar stick cookies. I haven't made these solo ever. The last time I made them with help, I was probably ten years old. Give me a break. I didn't get them to cook as evenly as I'd have liked, so next time, I know to flatten it out more in the middle. (Shame on me!) Otherwise, they turned out fine.
Now, I'm attempting some apple crisp per orders of Bear. Haha I am on a mission to use every dish/utensil/device in the kitchen, because if I made these few things, Bear promised to do all the dishes! I can't help but take total advantage of this situation! :-P
